RELEASE DAY/BOOK REVIEW: "Saving Gavin" by Vanessa Kimball

When Gavin Ferguson reached his breaking point, he dismantled everyone in his wake.
The bullying, the secrets, his father’s death, how he was different; it was all too much to bear. In his mind, the trigger was set and needed to be pulled.
Saving Gavin delves into the now displaced mind of Gavin as he is admitted to Pembroke Psychiatric Center after a tragic event at his high school. The question is can he be saved after such a dismantling trauma or is he forever lost?

*Saving Gavin is a companion novelette in the Evan series, following the international best selling full length novel, Dismantling Evan. *

I received am advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I had not read Dismantling Evan before offering to read and review Saving Gavin, and now that I've finished Saving Gavin, I need to go back and read DE!
A very short novella, Saving Gavin is about a teenager who has seizures which make him black out and he's now in an institution after bringing a gun to school while he was "checked out". He slowly seems to be getting better. He made a friend named Andy, and his family and friends visit often. But there are things they're not telling him, things that could possibly break him.
When I was about fourteen and fifteen, these were the types of YA books I enjoyed, books like Patricia McCormick's Cut and Steven Levenkron's The Luckiest Girl In The World.
In this day and age, teens are even more troubled, dealing with emotional diseases and serious familial issues. Very little fiction is directly geared towards them, and this series is filling a real need in the literary world.
Ms. Kimball writes excellently, getting inside Gavin's mind as she writes in diary format. It was quite easy to forget I was reading fiction and not a real boy's journal.
This was excellent, absolutely wonderful. She has won herself a new fan!

5/5--excellent!
